Japanese App Reviews

Usage Stylings

The app itself is alright for study purposes, but the use of English where kana, or at the very least romanization, could be used is annoying. As someone who is seeking a more immersive experience, being forced to think in English detracts from my ability to learn, and having an option to use kana but having a button for English translation would solve this. I need to reduce my reliance on English, and being forced to see English does not help.

This used to be better

I loved this app, but ever since its default search screen got animated Japanese words fading in and out, the overall performance has never been as snappy as it once was; (why no option to disable it?). The new handwriting recognition is clunky and laggy as hell. Its as if they gimped performance just to buff up the app and make it flashier. Now Im considering trying another J-E app like Midori...

Excellent; needs sync though

Very comprehensive dictionary with lots of extra tools for learning, like lists, labels, and study cards for JLPT. I actually like the floating words on the main page, as its an interesting way to learn some new words. I would really appreciate if the app supported syncing lists and history across iCloud. It gets pretty tedious having to export, email myself, and import every time I want to sync up my data. I agree with others about the degraded quality of the handwriting input. Its quite sluggish, and often doesnt find the character Im looking for. My stroke order is pretty much always correct, and I would guess thats how the matching should work; might just a matter of adjusting some tolerance values. Anyway, if the handwriting recognition doesnt work, try using the radical search instead.

Best Japanese English dictionary

I cant live without the app... You dont need Wifi and perfect to copy/paste from email or website.

improvement in update!

the kanji writing system wasnt that great before but its been fixed... this program may replace my overpriced ex-word dictionary!

Very helpful

This app comes in very handy. Especially the fact that you can search the conjugated form of a verb and get its plain form easily. I also like that if you search a kanji you get a number total for how many entries use that kanji or its variant pronunciations. 5 star quality app!

Really good

I have it since 2009, and been using it a lot. I really recommend it to whoever want a good japanese dictionary !

Will not start after upgrade

I have used this app for years but after the last update it crashes every time you try to open it. The website for support offers no way to contact the author to report problems. Very disappointed. Beware until this is resolved.

Best Japanese-English dictionary

Most complete and easy to use dictionary out there.

crashes

I cant use this app at all. It just keeps crashing after 2seconds of opening. Using the iPad 1 (firmware 5.1.1)

Highly recommended

definitely one if the best Japanese dictionary apps out there!

Fantastic!

Best app for Japanese dictionary, kanji and conjugations. It has everything!

Needs updating

This app WAS amazing, but since updating to iOS 8 the study mode freezes and exits the app. Please fix the bug(s)!!

Great App

Best Japanese app available; I used it for a year studying abroad in Kyoto.

Awesome iPhone 6 plus support!

Was just updated for the new iPhones. Hopefully you guys will add some new stuff.

Could not live without!

Literally! I live in japan and am constantly using this app to help with communication! Thanks for a great app.

Amazing

Been studying japanese for years now and this is hands down one of the better tools out there. Highly recommended.

My Absolute Favourite App

Wow, this is an amazing app! I use it everyday because it is so useful. It has never crashed or anything. Download this!!

critically bugged

If I switch to another app while doing a search, it resets back to the opening screen. Makes this useless for searching for kanji on safari, for example.

Well thought out

Tried many similar programs (Japanese dictionary, word lists, etc.). I stopped searching in 2010 (I think) once I bought this app. Exactly what I was looking for, well thought out and well made software. Would recommend to friends!! :)
