Excellent for advanced beginner or intermediate. This is portable and replaces several of my books. Especially like identifying Unknown kanji with ease and in several ways.

Overall it’s great, but if I’m studying and need to switch away from the app, it IMMEDIATELY exits the study mode. It should bring me back to where I was when I last used the app — especially if the app is still in memory!

I just got the app, and I have no clue how to do anything! Studying is weird, and I dont understand how the flash cards work! Im sure its a great app if you know how to use it, but I dont.

I tried learning Japanese 10 years ago but then gave up when looking up kanji became so tedious. Also, this app not only simplifies the searching process but it gives you 3 options of searching characters. And then when you do find it, it also provides stroke order and easy access to individual character definitions and the ability to add notes. There is also a learning function which I have not yet tested out.

Still think this is one if the best Japanese dictionaries

This is my go to app for studying Japanese. Its a fantastic dictionary with the best interface around. I really like the spaced repetition flash cards built in too. It has a lot of options and lets you add notes to entries and the flash cards work seamlessly with the dictionary. However, its been a while since Ive seen an update to the app which is a concern.

This app makes reading and understanding kanji 100000 times easier. Thank you for this

This is probably the best Japanese-English and English-Japanese dictionary/encyclopedia in existence, in any format. I wish I could find something comparable for Korean or Mandarin ... [sigh]

This is all I needed, comes with everything you need for verb forms and references. I highly recommend this. Great app, thank you so much! (I was NOT paid to write this!)

I can hardly believe all the good things in this app.

As a dictionary this really is excellent. But as a reliable study tool for serious students, it is not. It has not been updated since 2014. Repeated mails to the developer have gone unanswered, but years ago he did reply. Yes, a great dictionary with potential. But it is not a reliable for those who want to use the flash card system. People leave comments on the Facebook page but there too, no responses. I will happily give this five stars once the developers respond or update. Until then, I cant invest time in it.

As a dictionary: excellent. Very well done. As a serious study tool: no. No update since 2014. Multiple e-mails to the developer have gone unanswered. Mark, the developer, used to reply, but has not in over one year. For someone who wants to merely look up a word, this is great. But for serious students, we can’t depend on this. The app crashes. The flashcard system does not use a true SRS system, and the developer is aware of that problem. Check the facebook page: they do not reply to comments. Not even a few sentences from the developer saying what will happen. What’s the future here? If it was reliable I would be happy to DONATE money. But how can we rely on an app that seems to have been abandoned? I will happily change my review to five stars and sing praises once these problems are fixed. I think the new users to the app have not had it long enough to realize the flaws.

For years I have been using imiwa? as my go-to Japanese dictionary and its pretty great, but Renzo is so much better! It has more features such as SRS flashcards for the JLPT, various subjects such as medicine or chemistry, and you can make your own lists too. What I also like is that it shows you verb and adjective conjugations and if you do not know a Kanjis reading, you can draw it. Please note that you have to use the correct stroke order in order for the dictionary to recognize it. My only complaint is that the flashcard system is not customizable and repeats some cards too much. Otherwise I highly recommend this app!

This is an app thats meant for people who are seriously studying Japanese.

Ive been looking for an app like this for a long time--actually, its better than anything I couldve asked for. Its hard to find a well done, free app for studying kanji + vocab; its even more difficult to find a good dictionary app. This app has BOTH and its amazing and you shouldnt hesitate downloading it if you are learning Japanese ;>
