The Best

The best English-Japanese dictionary on the App Store.

What more do you need?

In the 1980s we carried a multitude of paper dictionaries. In the 1990s we carried our dedicated Wordtanks and Sony electronic dictionaries. Now we only need to carry one thing; the Japanese iOS app.

Indispensable

Ive found this to be an indispensable tool for my Japanese studies. I am currently in the intermediate-upper intermediate range in my studies and this dictionary with its versatility has been a tremendous asset.

Excellent application

This is a must-have application for anyone studying Japanese. Incredibly easy to use and contains a great deal of information for those studying Japanese at any level. I have downloaded other applications - e.g. Imiwa? - but this one is far better than any one of them. I especially like the kanji categories and the fact that the meanings and words are updated regularly to reflect the latest changes in the language. It is money really well-spent.

Brilliant!!

Makes learning this difficult language much easier!

A must have

A great app. I use it every day

Simply the best

Not much to add. It is the best you will ever find. Even better than those standalone electronic dictionaries.

Wow, this is fantastic.

I had seen this app recommended on a forum somewhere and checked out the entry. The ratings were high, and the reviews all positive. Even the price, for what it was offering, was not outrageous (especially when compared to the Anki SRS app at ¥2700..) but I was already using GoGo Navi and had found it adequate for many years. But then I started noticing many entries in GoGo were rather unclear and somewhat unhelpful. And then, with the update to iOS 6 some sections werent working and the app would crash a lot. So I decided to get this one. Within 2 minutes of playing around I knew I had made the right decision. Not only is this app functional, with a clear and detailed dictionary that shows examples in context, a list system to bookmark words and the aforementioned SRS to drill those words, but its well organized and well designed. I had seen the screenshot of the Discovery mode, but experiencing it first hand was amazing. Well done, this app goes on my list of Must Haves and gets pride of place on my Homescreen.

Bad support

The best app for anyone studying Japanese!

I’ve used this app for many years and it’s by far the best. You can look up any word, even slang, instantly add it to custom lists or highlight it and then use the flash card study function to study. It’s very easy to use, you can search kanji by handwriting, SKIP or using bushu, which I found the best way to study similar looking or same compound kanji together. It’s also great for JLPT since there is in build vocab and kanji lists for each level. The negative is that if you search a word in english, you will get so many results of common as well as obscure words that even my Japanese friends have never heard of. It would be great if they added some kind of information regarding the commonness of the word or how often it appears.

Grey Radical Slide Screens Are Broken

The gray radical slide screens are broken for the iPhone 6+ running OS version 8.0.

I cannot use it

I need quickly update to use it on Ios8

Good dictionary

Use this all the time, using component lookup and japanese keyboard mostly. Handwriting support of kanji is still a bit dodgy, but seems to be improving. Flashcard support is a nice bonus. Also love being able to paste sentences and getting each word translated.

Almost there

When you open the app and click in the search field the app switches into the word searching mode but the search field loses focus meaning you have to tap again after waiting for the screen to change. If this could be fix, this app would be a lot better.

good app

Its a good app full of content. The lists and study options are great, as are the example sentences. However I turned of cellular data usage for the app and now every time I open it it bugs me about it and I cant turn the notification off. I have no idea why this app would need to use my cell data. Also was not impressed by the website having no way to contact the makers of the app and ask questions or recieve support. Even though they have a support page.

I am so pleased with content and design of this app. Highly recommended for those who study Japanese.
